Vermeer inspiration
Thanks to ArtNews blog, I was pointed in the direction of Churp, Churp: Dutch genre paintings for your viewing, visiting, and reading pleasure; an interesting blog from a mum who describes herself as a published biochemist now preferring the stay-at-home life & temperament of an artist. Her blog is a lively critique of the Dutch masters, with informed comments from regular readers.
In a recent posting, she relates that a contemporary Dutch artist in Delft has figured out that his studio is that of Vermeer. He wants it declared historical so that it can be opened as a museum and he can make money. I wonder if his discovery that turning his studio into a museum would be profitable, preceded his discovery that Vermeer was an earlier occupant!
If the claim is authenticated, it will add another focal point into the European tour.
