Missoulian: Skateboarders

The Missoula Skatepark Association has teamed up with their city government hoping to give the city's skateboarders a designated area to ride and on Wednesday night plans were unveiled for a proposed skate park to be built at McCormick Park.

The Missoulian reports that skateboarders turned out on mass to learn what's next for the proposed $500,000 facility.

The idea that something needed to be built originated back in 2001. Two years later, when Pearl Jam returned for a Missoula show in 2003 and its Vitalogy Health Foundation made a big donation, skaters formed the Missoula Skatepark Association. They teamed up with the Missoula Redevelopment Agency, other city government offices got on board ;-) and the project soon had about $225,000 raised. The team must still come up with about $250,000 to complete the deal but it's looking good.
