Baltimore Symphony Orchestra

In June 2006, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's current conductor Yuri Temirkanov, is stepping down as musical director and he is to be succeeded by Marin Alsop. This will make her the first woman to head a large American orchestra.

However, her appointment is not without controversy since it has been made despite open opposition from many members of the orchestra.
