Maine White Water Rafting

Well, not strictly a beach activity but you get wet!

PRO River Runners have opened the gate on another season, pointing out that because the rivers in Maine are dam-controlled, they have the luxury of excellent whitewater rafting seven days a week, from April through October.

Beginner to experienced whitewater rafters can sign up for guided rafting adventures on the Dead and Kennebec Rivers in The Forks, or the Penobscot River in Millinocket, Maine. Each river offers rafters a unique experience, with Class II (easiest) to Class V (most difficult) whitewater rapids.

The Dead River has seven highwater release dates scheduled for 2005; with rapids reaching up to 7,000 cubic feet per second, the waves and excitement will be at their highest for the season – 10 to 25 feet! The Kennebec River has four Turbine Tests scheduled in June, July and September cranking out 8,000 cubic feet per second. With limited seats available for these high whitewater days, rafting slots can be expected to book up early.
