US Open of Surfing 2005
The snowlines are retreating and board junkies are heading for the beach.
Once more, Huntington City Beach, CA, hosts the free US Open of Surfing and Beach Games July 23 - 31. A surfing and extreme sports festival featuring the US Open of Surfing as well as Soul Bowl skateboarding and BMX bike competitions. The location is Huntington City Beach, at the Pier. On the final day, July 31st at 11:10 am, They Will Surf Again, the 5th Annual Life Rolls On Expression Session, will take place.
A US Open crowd that should reach 90,000 spectators will be treated to an amazing exhibition of surf talent, when the world's best show off their most radical and creative maneuvers.
Top pro surfers Rob Machado, Bruce Irons, Taj Burrow, Tim Curran,
two-time world champ Andy Irons, and six-time world champ Kelly Slater will share the water with renowned quadriplegic surfer, Jesse Billauer.
For the first time, a world class line-up of women will also participate in the exhibition. Among them Rochelle Ballard; winner of the Fosters Pro Surfing Title, Melanie Bartels; and women's US Open champ, Chelsea Gorgenson.
Life Rolls On is a non-profit 501(c)3 Foundation dedicated to increasing awareness about spinal cord injuries (SCI) within youth culture via influential action sports athletes. Through recreational, educational, and developmental programs, Life Rolls On raises money to fund research for the treatment and cure of paralysis caused by SCI.
