Slater and Irons still 1 and 2 but Phillip MacDonald has knocked Mick Fanning back to fourth spot.

Septemer 8, 2005.
Three straight wins in the ASP World Championship Tour helped Kelly Slater to set up a pretty big gap (578 points) over rival Andy Irons in the first half of the season but Irons says that he is really stoked up and is determined to give Slater a run for his money. In the recent Japan event, Andy Irons produced two near-perfect rides and beat Kelly to narrow the accumulated deficit by 178 points.
Since Spain has been cancelled, there are just four events remaining but Slater cannot allow Irons to get on a roll. However, the next ASP event is the Boost Mobile Pro at Trestles, California on September 13-18, 2005 and Kelly Slater spends a lot of time on these waves so he will probably have the upper hand. This event features a live webcast, so you can still get close to the action even if you can't get there in person.
Nearest threat to the lead two is Australian Mick Fanning but he would need a couple of sensational wins to cause an American upset.
