J Bay knocks ASP contenders

Well, Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay is underway but in a shock start some big names will not be taking part in the third round heats!

Andy and Bruce Irons (Haw) are both out. Bobby Martinez (USA) is out. C J Hobgood is also out and his twin brother has scratched from the competition due to his wife giving birth to their first child. Fred Patacchia (Haw) also failed to get into round three, following a crazy round one which saw the top five seeds on the Men's ASP World Tour relegated to fight it out in round two.

Bobby Martinez lost out to cunning tacticts from Jarrod Howse (Aus), who had his friends posted up on the hill to signal when good sets were coming in.

The defeats should put Kelly Slater (USA) in a commanding position to hold on to his world championship crown.
