Rip Curl Pro France

Rip Curl Pro Mademoiselle, event No. 5 on the ASP Women's World Tour, at Seignosse, France, has been put on hold, with an expected start tomorrow, September 1, 2006.

The hurricane season disrupted travel plans for the world's top female surfers, needing to cross the Atlantic after competing in the Billabong Girls Pro Brazil.

Leading the world rankings is six-time world champion Layne Beachley (Aus). Her recent win in Brazil, combined with runner-up berths in Australia and Fiji and a third place finish in Tahiti, saw Beachley overtake fellow Australian, Melanie Redman-Carr for the ratings lead last week; Redman-Carr finished last in Brazil but her victories in the first three events had given her a commanding lead, limiting the damage to her ranking.

ASP Women's World Tour Ratings after event 4.

1. Layne Beachley (AUS) 3900 points
2. Melanie Redman-Carr (AUS) 3780 points
3. Chelsea Georgeson (AUS) 2844 points
4. Jessi Miley-Dyer (AUS) 2052 points
5. Silvana Lima (BRA) 2040 points

Billabong Girls Pro Brazil

The Billabong Girls Pro ASP World Championship Tour event in Brazil is well underway, with the quarterfinal round scheduled for 3pm local time at Praia da Tiririca, Itacaré.

The event saw an early shock departure for this years rankings leader, Melanie Redman-Carr's (AUS), who lost both her round one and round two heats and now suffers the ignomy of sharing the event's last place.

As expected, the South Americans have been in blistering form on their home ground but the luck of the draw pits the two remaining South Americans, Brazilian rookie Silvana Lima and former World Champion Sofia Mulanovich (PER), against each other in the fourth quarterfinal; still, that does mean that there will be a South American in the Semis. It should make for one hell of a quarterfinal contest!

Quarterfinal listings (being screened live):

Quarterfinal 1: Julia Christian (USA) vs. Jessi Miley-Dyer (AUS)
Quarterfinal 2: Claire Bevilacqua (AUS) vs. Chelsea Georgeson (AUS)
Quarterfinal 3: Layne Beachley (AUS) vs. Heather Clark (ZAF)
Quarterfinal 4: Silvana Lima (BRA) vs. Sofia Mulanovich (PER)
